It is the Republican Convention of 1860. William Seward has carried two ballots, but not by enough to win a nomination. A Missouri delegation will help turn the tide on the third ballot. In that delegation are three men with the last name of Blair, a father and two sons. One of the sons is regarded by many as a man who saved Missouri for the Union through his bold political and military action. He was Francis Preston Blair, Jr. He went by the nickname of “Frank.”
