The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inducted a class of 14 people and which included a wide range of athletes from all walks of life. The most notable of the group was former Kansas City Royal and Oakland Raider Bo Jackson. Jackson played five full seasons with the Royals and was the 1989 All-Star Game MVP. A hip injury he suffered with the Raiders cut his career short. Former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ted Simmons was also inducted on Sunday. He played 11 seasons with St. Louis before getting traded to the Brewers before the 1981 season. Ironically enough, his only trip to the World Series came in 1982 against the Cardinals. The other inductees included: Former Kansas City Chief Art Still, Chiefs’ President/General Manager Carl Peterson, Former St. Louis Cardinals head coach and Rams assistant Jim Hanifan, former MU and Oakland Raider linebacker Gus Otto, Royals broadcaster Denny Matthews, former Missouri football player, assistant coach and current broadcaster John Kadlec, Central Missouri State Athletic Director Jerry Hughes, high school (Mexico) and college (Missouri Western, Mizzou assistant) basketball coach Gary Filbert, Raytown High School football coach Ted Chitwood and auto racers Jeffery Clinton and Masten Gregory. The Marshfield High School Girls Basketball team which won 102 straight games between 1988 and 1990 was also inducted.
