For now, the Kansas City Royals have said no to a new downtown stadium. Team president Dan Glass said on Friday that the Royals will play at Kauffman Stadium until their current lease expires in 2014. Glass said the decision was based largely on the team’s fans, who Glass says overwhelmingly want the Royals to stay at Kauffman. Kansas City mayor Kay Barnes says she’ll support a proposed four-year, quarter-cent sales tax to pay for maintenance at the Truman Sports Complex. That proposal is expected to go on the Jackson County ballot in August.
