The Missouri State Highway Patrol concludes its investigation into the January death of Cole County Sheriff George Brooks, saying it was a suicide. Brooks was found in the garage of his Cole County home, dead of a single gunshot wound to the head. The Patrol’s Sergeant Jason Clark won’t speculate as the reason Brooks took his own life. He says the findings of the probe revealed no evidence of foul play. Those findings were corroborated by an autopsy conducted by the Boone County Medical Examiner’s Office. Brooks committed suicide just days after he was sworn-in as the County’s new Sheriff.
