Missourians Now Eligible For Free Credit Reports

Starting March 1st, Missourians will be able get hold of free copies of their credit reports. The availability of credit reports isn’t new. But, Scott Holste with the State Attorney General’s Office says the information will now be available to Missourians free of charge. A recent change in federal law requires the three credit reporting companies to provide the information for free. The change is being phased in gradually across the country. And, now it’s Missouri’s turn. Holste says information from all three companies can be obtained at the same time. The free reports are available to consumers once every twelve months at www.annualcreditreport.com.

Three Missourians Finish In Top 10 In California

Greg Biffle took the checkered flag at California Speedway on Sunday, but for fans of Missouri natives, the winner wasn’t nearly as interesting as some of the guys who finished close behind. Joplin’s Jamie McMurray made a late surge and finished fourth. Carl Edwards of Columbia was 5th, but led a couple of times on Sunday to move up to 4th in the point standings. Rusty Wallace is 8th in the points’ standings and Mc Murray is 17th.

SMS Women Earn At Least A Tie Of Conference Crown

Worst case scenario: The SMS women’s basketball team will tie for the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title. They beat Wichita state 79-50 in Springfield, to clinch at least a tie for the conference crown. Senior Jenni Lingor led the way for SMS on Sunday with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Nicole Lehman and Sarah Klaassen added 18 points apiece, while Kari Koch dished out eight assists. The Lady Bears built a 30-24 advantage at the half, then scorched the nets in the second half by shooting over 59 percent over the final 20 minutes. With the win, SMS improved to 19-6 overall and 14-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. They have two more games against Bradley and Northern Iowa on Thursday and Saturday at the Hammons Student Center. A win in either of those games or a Northern Iowa loss will earn them their second straight regular season conference championship.

Governor Tours State Touting First Steps Reforms

Governor Matt Blunt tours the state, touting reforms to the First Steps education program. And, he does so not long after he underwent public scrutiny for suggesting cuts need to be made. Only this time, the Governor is laying out his reasons ahead of time, saying the program that helps kids with developmental disabilities can’t survive without some help. Blunt’s reforms include passing legislation that makes insurers pay for the first $3,000 of therapy – an idea that failed to make it through the Legislature the last time around. He also wants families to pay a co-pay on a sliding scale, ranging from $5 to $100 a month. The day-long tour began in Springfield and takes the Governor to Chesterfield, Columbia, and Pleasant Valley.
