State Transportation Director Pete Rahn says there’s no guarantee that the government should be running the transportation function of the state. He points to several countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and Sweden that privatized their transportation functions and have had great success. Rahn says the concept makes sense if government cannot meet the needs of its citizens in that area, although he’s not pushing for the idea. Rahn speculates that if any Governor called for private companies to take over the transportation function of that state, there would be many contractors lined up ready to do the job.
