Members of the Missouri School Boards’ Association, gathered in Jefferson City for their Legislative Forum, hear from lawmakers about the many concerns facing public education. Senate Leader Michael Gibbons of Kirkwood addressed the gathering, focusing specifically on the funding formula for Missouri’s schools and how it’s in need of fixing – without input from the courts. A lawsuit has been launched, questioning whether the formula is adequate and equitable. Gibbons says the Legislature must act. House Democratic Floor Leader Jeff Harris of Columbia agrees, insisting lawmakers are obligated to provide Missouri kids with a quality education. Both say they’re looking forward to hearing what Governor Matt Blunt has to say about the funding formula in his State of the State Address.
