The SMS Lady Bears topped Creighton 66-51 in Springfield to take over first place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings. Keri Koch was just 8-of-21 from the field on Sunday, but led SMS with 19 points and eight assists, while Jenni Lingor chipped in 17 points and six rebounds. SMS found themselves in a 33-27 hole going into the locker room at half time. In the second half the Lady Bears’ defense clamped down after allowing the Bluejays to shoot 51 percent from the floor over the first 20 minutes. Creighton shot just 22 percent from the field the rest of the way, scoring just 18 points in the second half. The win moved SMS to 12-5 overall and 7-1 in MVC play. CU is 12-4 and 6-1, ending an eight-game winning streak. SMS has won six in a row and eight-of-nine.
