A representative of manufacturing interests urges the state not to forget about those who actually make things when they plan for economic development. Associated Industries of Missouri President Gary Marble reminds state officials manufacturing remains an important segment of Missouri’s economy. He says to keep it so, the State needs to re-tool tax credits which now reward only those who create new jobs. Marble says the State needs to help existing manufacturers, so they can maintain and grow their workforce. And, Marble agrues such treatment will benefit business recruitment. Marble says state agencies need to communicate better and work together. He says the state’s colleges and technical schools should work with the Economic Development Department, and the State should work with local communities to create business-friendly environments.
