Opponents of a workers’ compensation bill have their chance to address a Senate committee considering the legislation. Steve Walsh reports. The first three-plus hours of testimony, last week, came from supporters of the workers’ compensation bill. This time around, Senators heard from those who feel this bill would have a negative impact on what they believe is a system that already has its share of troubles. Kevin Laytham of Bethany tells the panel he was a truck driver who was injured on the job and denied benefits … and fears this bill would make things worse for claimants. Truck driver Richard Davis of Blue Springs was injured in a car accident, and claims his employer didn’t initially notify workers’ comp officials because of a lack of knowledge of the procedure. Supporters say they want to restrict workers’ compensation claims to those injured on the job. The committee will vote on the bill next week.
