Today is Martin Luther King Day – a day that means so much to so many Missourians who remember the legacy of the slain civil rights leader. Civil rights leader Martin Luther King is the first Black American to be remembered with a holiday in his honor. Myra Drummond-Lewis, State Diversity Recruitment Officer for the Missouri Office of Equal Opportunity, was a Black girl growing up in segregated Kentucky when King was shot and killed. She says that while King’s dream has not fully been realized, tremendous strides have been made thanks to the efforts of King and other civil rights leaders. If King were alive today, he would be 76.
