The Missouri Clean Water Commission has met to discuss its options for dealing with a federal court ruling that the State is not in compliance with several aspects of the Clean Water Act. Commission Chairman Tom Herrmann says it’s a choice between coming up with a proposal or having one forced on Missouri by the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA wants a proposal from Missouri by April 30th, 2006. The Commission wants to have a proposal, by March, to submit to the Legislature for its approval. The federal court ruling stems from a complaint filed against the EPA by the Missouri Coalition for the Environment, which alleged Missouri was not meeting water quality standards.
