A hearing is being held today in St. Louis on claims by the Missouri Council of the Blind that the State Social Services Department has misappropriated a lot of money from the Blind Pension Fund. The Council wants a judge to bar the Department from any more unauthorized expenditures. A Council lawyer says the pension fund should be paying low income blind people $100 a month more than it is, and that the Department has taken $24-Million out of the fund for other purposes.
