A man who was released from Illinois’ death row last year is facing possible murder charges and the death penalty in Missouri. 43-year-old James Umphrey was facing the death penalty for a 2000 conviction of a murder charge in Illinois when then-Governor George Ryan commuted the sentences of 167 of that state’s death row inmates. Officials now want Umphrey for the 1998 murder of his boss. Umphrey is currently being held at the St. Louis City Jail where prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
