Just days before Christmas folks thinking they were getting some cash, end up in jail due to outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants. Springfield and Greene County authorities set up a sting, dubbed Operation COBRA, at a motel where dozens of wanted people showed up thinking they were cashing in. It all started with Springfield setting up a fake company, complete with a website telling these people they had money coming to them. But, after filling out their name tag and paperwork that’s when the real surprise came. Springfield police entered the room and placed everyone under arrest.By the van-load, the wanted individuals were hauled off to the Greene County Jail where family was waiting to bond them out. The “stung” individuals said over and over that if they just knew, they would have taken care of any outstanding warrants. One hundred, sixty-two warrants were serviced and 118 people were arrested. These warrants were not only Springfield municipal warrants but also outstanding Greene County warrants. This whole sting took Springfield police and the Greene County sheriff’s department two months to plan.
