Specialty license plates have proven to be popular, with more than 120 different designs available to Missourians. And, the process to create new specialty plates will soon change. As things stand now, both chambers of the General Assembly must approve any proposal and it must be signed by the Governor. Jessica Robinson with the State Revenue Department says that changes January 1st, when proposals will be made to that Department and will then only need the approval of one committee – the Joint Committee for Transportation Oversight. This cuts down on the red tape at the State Capitol. But there is one additional requirement that will be added next month. Any new proposal will have to have a list with the names of at least 200 potential purchasers who are willing to pay for the new plate design. This will be seen as proof, by the State, that there is a demand for a new design.
