The status of Priest Holmes for the rest of the 2004 season is up in the air, according to head coach Dick Vermeil. Vermeil expressed surprise in how slowly Holmes’ knee is recovering from a strained MCL. He was supposed to miss 2-4 weeks, but Vermeil said Tuesday that it’s hard to tell when he’ll be back now. Vermeil said, “We’re at four weeks and I don’t think he’s anywhere close to being ready to play. Is he gonna be ready to play in two weeks? I don’t know.” Holmes hurt the knee in the second half of the Chiefs 34-31 loss to the Buccaneers on November 8th. Since then he’s missed four games and will not play at Tennessee on Monday.
