The holiday party season means too many Missourians will be drinking and driving – sometimes with tragic results. The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety – made up of such agencies and groups as the Department of Public Safety, MoDOT, and MADD – Mothers Against Drunk Driving – is launching an awareness campaign. MADD’s Phaedra Marriott, who has been in a wheelchair since she was the victim of a drunk driving crash in 1996, helps victims deal with what has happened to them. She believes drunk driving is taken more seriously now than it was when she was hit. Marriott also visits prisons, talking to drunk driving inmates and others about the consequences of their actions. She’s the subject of a new music video written by a Jefferson City Prison inmate who was moved by Phaedra’s story.
