The Chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City is stepping down from her post, effective January 1st. In a prepared statement, Martha Gilliland says she believes it is in the best interests of the students, faculty, staff, and alumni to resign. Gilliland, who has been UMKC Chancellor since April of 2000, has been the target of recent complaints by several of the school’s professors, who said they lacked confidence in her leadership. University of Missouri System President Elson Floyd says he expects to make a decision on an interim chancellor early in the new year.
