Record Kill Number Recorded For Deer Hunting Season

Missouri deer hunters shot 222,000-plus deer during the regular firearms season. And Jim Low with the State Conservation Department says not only is that above last year’s harvest, but it broke a two-year-old record. Low says the good weather on the opening weekend contributed to good numbers of hunters able to hunt longer, and that pushed up the numbers. He adds the number of hunting-related accidents was down to just seven with no fatalities.

Twelve Deaths Reported On Missouri’s Roads Over Holiday Weekend

Missouri motorists put together a significantly safer Thanksgiving holiday period this year than they had in 2003. A dozen traffic fatalies have been recorded. Accidents, injuries, and drunk driving arrests are down from last year in calculations by the Highway Patrol. Patrol Captain Chris Ricks says traffic was heavy on Friday – the day after Thanksgiving and the first big day of the Christmas shopping season. Nine of the 12 traffic fatalies counted during the holiday weekend happened on Saturday and Sunday.

Chiefs Can’t Stop Chargers

The best the Chiefs can hope for in 2004 is to break even after losing to the Chargers 34-31 at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday afternoon—the loss dropped the Chiefs to 3-8 on the season. Kansas City certainly had its chances, but let them slip through their fingers—literally. With the Chiefs leading 17-14 at the half, Dante Hall took the opening kickoff of the second half 77-yards before fumbling at the Charger five yard line. San Diego recovered and prevented the Chiefs from extending the lead. Hall made good on the fumble by returning another kick 96 yards for a touchdown, but Kansas City’s defense failed them again. The Chargers were able to rack up 17 points in the final quarter, which included a 43-yard field goal from Nate Kaeding with 2:24 to go. Kaeding redeemed himself after missing two previous attempts. The field goal was set up by former Chief Donnie Edwards who picked off a Trent Green pass. The Chiefs were able to contain LaDanian Tomlinson to just 57 yards rushing, but quarterback Drew ripped up the secondary for 378 yards, two touchdowns and he had no interceptions.
