The Missouri basketball team turned in another poor performance on Tuesday night, losing to Creighton 78-54 in the semifinals of the Guardians Classic. The Tigers shot just 32 percent from the floor, and hit just four-of-19 three-pointers. Linas Kleiza led Missouri with 12 points. Nate Funk paced the Blue Jays with 21 points. In the other semifinal game, Ohio State beat Houston 78-61. So Missouri and Houston will meet in the third-place game. It will be the second meeting between the two teams in a week. Missouri beat Houston last Tuesday in the second round of the tournament. Mizzou and Houston tip off at 5:30 tonight at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. Creighton and Ohio State meet at 8:00 in the title game.
MU Arena To Get New Name
The Missouri Tigers new basketball home will get a new name. The Laurie family returned the arena’s naming rights to MU on Tuesday. The Laurie family had the naming rights after donating $25 million for the new arena. Paige Laurie, the arena’s namesake, has been accused of cheating her way through college. A former roommate says Laurie paid her about $20,000 to write papers for Laurie and do other class work.
SMS-West Plains Volleyball Drops Two At National Tourney
SMS-West Plains lost two matches on Tuesday at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national volleyball tournament. The Lady Grizzlies dropped a five-game match to No. 3 seed Salt Lake Community College, then lost a four-game match to Hutchinson Community College. SMS-West Plains, the host school and No. 6 seed in the tournament, will play Western Wyoming Community College for seventh place. Tonight’s championship match pits Salt Lake Community College against No. 1 seed Miami-Dade College.
