National Group Gives Missouri Mixed Grades On Progress Of Women
A study of women’s place in Missouri’s political and economic system gives Missouri a B-minus in women’s employment and earnings. The Women’s Policy Research Institute says we’re 11th in the nation in the percentage of women in managerial or professional occupations, 13th in percentage of women in the workforce, and tenth in the income women have – compared to the incomes men earn. Analyst April Shaw says Missouri can do better. The study says the median salaries paid to women who work full time are 79 percent of the median amounts men earn. She says part of that difference is because of the jobs women take, which tend to be lower-paying jobs than men take.
MU Recruit Says Tigers Weren’t His Choice
Leo Criswell will play basketball for Mizzou, but does he want to? Criswell, who signed a letter of intent with MU on Tuesday, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that his mom forced him to sign with Missouri. In an article that appeared Thursday, Criswell said that if he didn’t sign with MU, his mother, Georgia Lyons, was going to make leave Coastal Christian Academy in Virginia Beach, Virginia and return home to Piper, Kansas. Criswell also told the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader that he wanted to go to Kentucky but that he couldn’t “go against” his mother. Lyons told the Post-Dispatch that Missouri was the only school that talked to her son about the kind of education they’d offer him. Criswell added that he’s not upset about going to Mizzou, but that it wasn’t his first choice. As a junior, Criswell averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Holmes Seeks Second Opinion
Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes was excused from practice on Wednesday so he could have his injured right knee looked at by a doctor in Florida. He currently has what’s called a grade-two strain, which was worse than what the Chiefs expected. Holmes, who missed Sunday’s loss to the Saints, is listed as highly unlikely for Monday’s home tilt with the Patriots. The good news, at least according to head coach Dick Vermeil, is that it won’t require surgery. Derrick Blaylock, who had the fifth best rushing performance in team history on Sunday, will get the start if Holmes can’t go. Blaylock rushed for 186 yards on Sunday.
To Retreat Is To Lead
Franz Sigel was a German who chose the wrong side in the German Revolution. He was driven from his home country twice to Switzerland and finally even Switzerland attempted to ship him to America. Knowing the trouble Sigel had going where he was supposed to go, and holding his position once he arrived, his story as a Civil War general might be better understood.
