Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes was excused from practice on Wednesday so he could have his injured right knee looked at by a doctor in Florida. He currently has what’s called a grade-two strain, which was worse than what the Chiefs expected. Holmes, who missed Sunday’s loss to the Saints, is listed as highly unlikely for Monday’s home tilt with the Patriots. The good news, at least according to head coach Dick Vermeil, is that it won’t require surgery. Derrick Blaylock, who had the fifth best rushing performance in team history on Sunday, will get the start if Holmes can’t go. Blaylock rushed for 186 yards on Sunday.
