Missouri Farm Bureau Chief Rumored To Be Among Those Considered For Agriculture Secretary

Two of Missouri’s members of Congress on the agriculture committees back the idea of a Missourian to become part of President Bush’s cabinet. Missouri Farm Bureau President Charlie Kruse could be considered for Secretary of Agriculture. Senator Jim Talent is on the Senate Agriculture Committee. He says Kruse brings all of the qualities to the table that Talent believes the position demands. And, Northwest Missouri Congressman Sam Graves, who sits on the House Agriculture Committee, says Kruse would help balance out what he sees as a southern influence on the House and Senate Agriculture Committees. So far, Kruse has not commented.

High Court Stays Out Of Colorado Adoption Case

The baby stays in Colorado! The U.S. Supeme Court has refused to consider whether a Colorado couple will have to return their adopted son to his birth mother in Missouri. The Colorado Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the adoptive parents. It struck down a ruling from a Missouri judge who had ordered the child returned to the birth mother, identified only as C.M.C., after she had changed her mind about giving up the youngster. The two parties had reached an adoption agreement in April of 2003, one that would have allowed the birth mother – who lives outside St. Louis – to take back the child, identified as Alex, if the woman changed her mind before the Missouri judge granted final approval to the adoption. The judge refused to grant final approval because the woman would not identify the baby’s father, which is required by law. The birth mother then revoked her consent and the court scrapped the adoption, but the Colorado couple claimed they had the right to keep the baby. Colorado courts agreed.

Rams Tied For First With Win Over Seahawks

The Rams scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and never saw the end zone again against the Seahawks. Luckily for the Rams, their defense held Seattle to just four field goals in a 23-12 win at the Dome. Marc Bulger hit Kevin Curtis for a 15-yard strike and Steven Jackson scored from four yards out as the Rams raced to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Jeff Wilkins hit the first of his three field goals to give St. Louis a 13-0 lead. It was a good day for running backs: Shaun Alexander rushed for 176 yards, while Marshall Faulk had his best game of the season with 139 yards on the ground. The biggest play of the day came in the fourth quarter, with the Rams up 20-12. Alexander ran 35 yards to the Rams nine-yard line, when safety Aeneas Williams stripped him of the ball and Rich Coady recovered the fumble and the Rams prevented Seahawks from scoring. Despite their inability to score a touchdown after the first quarter, St. Louis still racked up 462 yards which is their best output of the season. Marc Bulger was 23-34 for 262 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. The win moved them into a tie for first with the Seahawks. Both teams are 5-4, but technically, St. Louis has the lead since they won both games against Seattle and are 4-0 within the NFC West….Left tackle Orlando Pace was ejected from the game in the third quarter for making contact with an official, though a replay showed that he was being pulled off a pile by a Seahawks player when he ran into side judge Don Carlson….Torry Holt left the game with a concussion.

Chiefs Lose To Saints
