Royals Rookies Win Team Honors

For the first time in team history, a pair of rookies have won Royals player and pitcher of the year honors. The Kansas City Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association voted outfielder David DeJesus as the Royals player of the year. DeJesus, who took over for Carlos Beltran in center field, hit .287 and finished the year with his second 15-game hitting streak of the season. Zack Greinke won the pitcher of the year award. Greinke was 8-11 with a team-best 3.97 ERA. Greinke was 6-3 in his last 12 starts.

SLU Signs Soderberg To Five-Year Deal

St. Louis University has signed men’s basketball coach Brad Soderberg to a five-year contract. The deal keeps him with the Billikens through 2008-09. Soderberg has led SLU to a 35-29 in two seasons and two NIT appearances. Soderberg was hired before the 2002-03 season to replace Lorenzo Romar. SLU tips off exhibition play tonight against UMSL.
