The best fielders in the business were honored yesterday as baseball’s Gold Glove Awards were handed out. The Cardinals got three of the National League’s nine Gold Gloves, as center fielder Jim Edmonds, catcher Mike Matheny and third baseman Scott Rolen were chosen. All three are repeat winners from last season—Edmonds has won the award in six consecutive seasons and Rolen has won five straight. . Edmonds has now won the award seven times, Matheny has won three times and Rolen got his sixth. The Cardinals have a total of 25 Gold Gloves on their roster. Other National League winners included pitcher Greg Maddux (Braves), first baseman Todd Helton (Rockies), second baseman Luis Castillo (Marlins), shortstop Cesar Izturis (Dodgers), and outfielders Andruw Jones (Braves) and Steve Finley (Dodgers).
