Just hours after being swept out of the World Series, Cards manager Tony LaRussa said he would return to the team in 2005. LaRussa’s current deal expires at the end of this year, but he said he expects to sign a two-year contract with the Cardinals. The players returned to Busch Stadium on Thursday to clean out their lockers after a stunning end to the season. Boston completed a four-game sweep of 2004 World Series with a 3-0 win on Wednesday. The Cardinals won 105 games during the regular season, and finished 13 games in front of Houston in the National League Central Division. The Cardinals then disposed of the Dodgers and Astros in the playoffs, giving the Redbirds their first pennant since 1987.
