The St. Louis Cardinals know that it’s been done before, but they don’t want to find out if it can be done twice. St. Louis will try to avoid getting in a 3-0 hole to the Red Sox, as Game 3 of the World Series gets underway tonight. Boston became the first team in Major League history to erase a three-game deficit and won the American League Championship Series. The Cardinals will play the next three games—if necessary—at Busch Stadium, where they are 6-0 this post season. The games in St. Louis will be played under National League rules, which means there will be no designated hitter and pitchers will have to pitch. David Ortiz, who was the ALCS MVP will now have to play first base. Ortiz played 34 games at first base this year and committed 4 errors. 49 other players had at least 30 games at first and only Mike Piazza had a lower fielding percentage than Ortiz. This will also mean Kevin Millar will head to the bench. Jeff Suppan will get the start against Pedro Martinez.
