The Cardinals find themselves in a two-games-to-none lead in the World Series after dropping Game 2 6-2 in Boston Sunday. Much like Game 1, the Cardinals were unable to take advantage of four Boston errors, grabbing just one run off Boston miscues. Meanwhile, Curt Schilling and his sutured ankle lasted six innings and gave up just one run off four hits and a walk. Schilling wasn’t sure if he would be able to pitch when he woke up on Sunday, but some pre-game tweaking by the Red Sox medical staff alleviated some of the pain in his injured ligament. The Red Sox got to Cardinal starter Matt Morris early when Jason Varitek drove in two runs with a triple in the first inning. In the second inning left fielder Reggie Sanders may have cost the Cardinals with a running mistake. Tony Womack singled to right field but Sanders, who was on first, rounded second without touching the bag and had to turn around and head back to second, when he would have likely made it to third. Mike Matheny lined to third on a hit-and-run, which Bill Mueller turned into a double play to end the inning. Albert Pujols cut the lead to 2-1, when he scored on an error in the fourth, but Mark Bellhorn made it 4-1 in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double off Morris. In the sixth, Orlando Cabrera’s two-run single off Cal Eldred gave Boston a 6-1 advantage. Scott Rolen’s sacrifice fly in the eighth, but that was the last run of the game. The series now moves to St. Louis, where the Cardinals will host Games 3, 4, and 5. Game 3 is Tuesday and the projected starters are Jeff Suppan and Pedro Martinez.
