A seventh game will be necessary in the National League. The Cardinals dramatic 12th inning, 6-4 win over the Astros in Game 6 forced the decisive game slated for Thursday night. With the Cardinals leading 4-3 in the ninth, St. Louis reliever Jason Isringhausen hit lead off batter Morgan Ensberg with a pitch. He eventually scored thanks to a Jeff Bagwell RBI single. Isringhausen was able to put the Astros down in order in the 10th inning. Julian Tavarez didn’t allow a hit in the 11th or 12th inning before Jim Edmonds sent everyone home with a two run home run in the bottom of the 12th inning. Tavarez was credited with the win. Albert Pujols hit a two run homer in the first and Edgar Renteria had a two-run double in the third inning. The win forced the decisive game tonight, as the Cardinals look to capture the 16th National League Pennant in their history and the first since 1987. Jeff Suppan and Roger Clemens will get the start tonight….the winner of tonight’s game will face the Red Sox who beat the Yankees in game seven of the American League Championship Series 10-3. Boston became the first team in Major League history to win a series after trailing 3-games-to-none.
