Every now and then we hear of a professional athlete who leaves the sports world for a career in music. One such entertainer is Kent Bottenfield, a former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher who – after a successful Major League Baseball career – started writing and recording Christian contemporary music. He says he had combined baseball and music early in his career, but had to give priority to the athletic career. Bottenfield, who got out of the game after being sidelined with a shoulder injury, now lives in the Indianapolis area. He has taken part in a collaboration CD with other Christian performers and has released his first solo CD. He’s also done some scouting work for the Cardinals as they prepared for the National League Championship Series against the Houston Astros – another of his former teams. Bottenfield’s CD, “Take Me Back,” can be purchased at www.kbott.com.
