Four workers have been fired. 47 others have been suspended as state officials act in the wake of abuse and neglect allegations at the Bellefontaine Habilitation Center, a center for the mentally retarded located in St. Louis. The Director of the Missouri Division of Mental Retardation, Anne Deaton, says the names of the four fired will be placed on a statewide employee disqualification list that will bar them from working with the disabled or the elderly. Deaton declines to disclose their names. She says the investigation will intensify to clear any of the suspended workers, so they can be reinstated.
