Democrat Claire McCaskill flatly denies she ever suggested she would appoint a fundraiser to a judgeship should she win election as Governor. A letter written by Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor Charlie Lamento last year requests money for the McCaskill for governor campaign from a fellow Kansas City lawyer. In the letter, Lamento writes “I am a very close friend to her and she has promised me a judgeship if she is elected”. McCaskill says she never made such an offer. McCaskill also denies she had made any statements to Lamento that could have led him to conclude she would appoint him to a judgeship should she win election. Lamento did write a follow-up letter to the attorney, stating that he was overly exuberant in the initial letter and that it was out of line in its suggestion.
