Researchers at Saint Louis University are looking into a new way of dispensing medication to patients with Alzheimer’s disease. It’s moderate sufferers of Alzheimer’s taking part in the resarch – those in the early stages who are still able to take care of themselves – and it involves use of a patch which dispenses medication. Doctor George Grossberg, the Saint Louis University School of Medicine’s Director of Geriatric Psychiatry, heads up the research. He says the patch has advantages over oral medication. Doctor Grossberg says earlier patch research ran into problems that included allergies and difficulty making the patch stick to the skin … but those problems have now been solved. Saint Louis University is one of about 90 sites in which this research is being conducted.
