The main opponents in the race for the Governor’s office differ on a number of issues, but they’re on the same side when it comes to transportation dollars. It’s long been a practice of the Legislature to take money appropriated for transportation and to divert it to other government agencies and programs. Democrat Claire McCaskill and Republican Matt Blunt want the practice ended. State Auditor McCaskill’s office has received some of the diverted money … and she’s told lawmakers to stop. Blunt claims McCaskill is a recent opponent of the diversion of funds while he’s been an opponent for years. There are some minor differences between the candidates, mostly over how to run the Transportation Commission and the State Transportation Department.
