In four of the Royals previous five losses, they blew leads. Last night they found themselves in a hole all night, but came back to beat the Tigers 9-8. Detroit used four singles and a double from five different players in the first and second innings to take a 5-0 lead on Tuesday. Despite the early deficit, the Royals showed fight by cutting the deficit to one run with two-run singles from John Buck and Desi Relaford in the bottom of the second. The Tigers weren’t done either—Dmitri Young gave Detroit a three-run cushion with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to make it 7-4. Kansas City and Detroit continued to play cat-and-mouse and the Royals trailed 8-6 going into the bottom of the ninth. Ruben Gotay cut it to 8-7 with an RBI single, Abraham Nunez tied it by driving in a run with a ground out and Aaron Guiel gave the Royals the win with a sacrifice fly to score John Buck. Jeremy Affeldt got the win in relief, despite allowing a run in the ninth inning. The win snapped a five-game losing streak.
