A pet dog in southwest Missouri has tested positive for therabies virus. The Missouri Department of Health issued a rabies alert forLawrence County after the dog tested positive. Officials say the dog wastaken to the veterinarian around August 21st because it was showing signs ofparalysis and disorientation. By the next day, it was showing signs ofaggressiveness. Four people, including the owner of the dog, will have toreceive rabies shots. The veterinarian who handled the dog will get arabies booster shot. The dog had not bitten anyone, but there was still arisk that people exposed to it would become ill. Rabies is 100%fatal once symptoms show.
