The Olympic dream is over for Columbia, Missouri resident Derrick Peterson, as he failed to advance in the 800-meter run in Athens. Peterson finished fourth in his heat with a time of 1:47.60–earlier this summer, he qualified for the Olympics with a time of 1:45.00, which was a personal best. Peterson was 42nd overall out of 72 runners who attempted to advance in 10 heats on Wednesday. The Mizzou graduate was the 1999 NCAA Indoor Champion and still holds the NCAA indoor record.
