The Department of Defense will allow Missourians serving overseas to e-mail in their cast absentee ballots for the November election. One of the biggest groups of people expected to take advantage of this method will be Missourians serving in the guard, up to two thousand of them could vote this way. Guard spokesman Lieutenant Jamie Melchert says service members who fill out their ballots will have the ballots scanned into a computer and e-mailed to a secured Department of Defense location. From there, they will be faxed to local election officials. Despite all the extra people handling the ballots, state election officials feel confident the secrecy of the ballot will be preserved.
