Affiliated minor league baseball is coming to the Ozarks. The owners of the Class-AA El Paso (Texas) Diablos have sold the rights of the team to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Diablos name and logo will stay in El Paso as their owners try to attract a Class-AAA team. Meanwhile the Cardinals have ended their affiliation with the Tennessee Smokies, their current Class-AA team. This isn’t the first time that Springfield and the Cardinals have been linked. In the 1930’s and 1940’s the Redbirds had a minor league team. Springfield also had a Cubs farm team in the 1950’s. The team will play at the $32-million Hammons Field, which opened up earlier this year.
