Missouri remains a battleground in the presidential sweepstakes, with the chairman of the Democratic National Committee attempting to make sure a civil war doesn’t lead to defeat in November. DNC Chairman Terry McAuliffe says he worried about the Holden-McCaskill battle before and now is working to ensure Democrats are united going into the November election, meeting recently with both Claire McCaskill and Governor Holden. McAuliffe says Holden told him he fully supports McCaskill and has told his supporters to switch their allegiance. McAuliffe has met with McCaskill who he says is “energized, excited” about the upcoming election. McAuliffe promises an integrated, coordinated campaign, which will benefit all Democrats on the ballot, including Senate candidate Nancy Farmer. McAuliffe doesn’t dispute suggestions that Farmer’s campaign against Senator Bond hasn’t gotten traction in state politics that has been dominated by the presidential and gubernatorial race. The Democratic National Committee has about 40 operatives in the state.
