The Cardinals won both ends of a day/night doubleheader from the Pirates. The Redbirds survived to win the opener 5-4. Pittsburgh rallied for three runs in the ninth, but left the tying run on base. The Cards scored single runs in the first, third, fourth, fifth and eighth innings. John Mabry’s solo home run in the eighth proved to be the game-winning hit. The Cards rallied for a 5-3 win in the nightcap. St. Louis scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth. Scott Rolen helped make Cardinal history. He blasted his 30th home run of the season in the second inning. For the first time in team history, three Cardinals have hit at least 30 home runs in a season. Rolen joins Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols in the 30-homer club.
