Senior United States District Judge Clyde S. Cahill has died at his St. Louis home at the age of 81. Cahill was the first black judge to be appointed to the US District Court for Missouri’s Eastern District. He was appointed in 1980 by President Carter. Cahill was an Air Force World WarTwo veteran. After serving, he returned to St. Louis to attend St. Louis University. He graduated from law school in 1951 and was admitted to the bar that year. He has worked as a lawyer for the NAACP and was executive director of the Legal Aid Society of St. Louis. He was a circuitcourt judge from 1975 to 1980. Cahill attained senior status on the court in 1992.
