Almost a week since Claire McCaskill defeated incumbent Governor Bob Holden in the Democratic Primary Election … and the party faithful are closing ranks. And, a high-profile Holden supporter from Kansas City is now leading an effort to bring Holden backers to the McCaskill campaign. Former Kansas City Mayor EmanuelCleaver had backed Governor Holden, but he showed up at McCaskill Campaign headquarters on Election Night to congratulate the State Auditor. Cleaver says winning the Governor’s office can be a huge step in Democratic efforts to win Missouri for the Kerry-Edwards ticket, and that could put John Kerry in the White House. Cleaver is encouraging all his supporters who backed Holden to put bitterness aside and work for a McCaskill victory. Cleaver is running for the seat being vacated by outgoing Kansas City Congresswoman Karen McCarthy.
