Despite almost blowing a five-run lead in the ninth and a 24-minute power outage, the Royals were able to top the White Sox 6-4 at Kauffman Stadium Thursday night. Kansas City built a 6-0 thanks, in large part, to Matt Stairs. The Royals designated hitter hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, the Royals exploded for a five-run rally, which was capped by Stairs’ three-run homer. It was 6-1 in the ninth inning when things got weird and dark. Reliever D.J. Carrasco allowed a home run, and then loaded the bases. During Carrasco’s frustrating ninth inning, the power went out at Kauffman Stadium for 13 minutes. Once power was restored and the game resumed, Carrasco’s appearance was interrupted in mid-pitch with yet another dousing of the lights. This interruption lasted 11 minutes. Nate Field eventually relieved Carrasco and got the save, despite allowing a two-run single. Kansas City took two-of-three from Chicago.
