For the first time in Missouri history, and the first time in the United States since 1994, a sitting Governor fails to win his party’s nomination for re-election. Governor Bob Holden has lost big to his Democratic challenger State Auditor Claire McCaskill. After Holden called McCaskill to congratulate her on her victory, he called for unity in the party. In her victory speech, McCaskill echoed those sentiments and reached out to independents and Republicans. McCaskill urges hersupporters not to go negative in the next three months and reminds them the fight has just begun. She’ll face Republican Matt Blunt on November 2nd. Blunt was a runaway winner in the GOP Primary.
