For the second straight night, the Royals were held to just four hits and lost to the Devil Rays 2-0 in Tampa. Devil Rays’ starter Rob Bell lasted 6 1/3 innings to get the win, while Mike Wood went seven innings and allowed both runs for the loss (1-3). In the third Rocco Baldelli drove in a run with a grounder and Tino Martinez had an RBI single. The Royals have now lost seven straight and have scored just 11 runs during the skid. In the fourth inning, manager Tony Pena pulled first baseman Ken Harvey out of the game for not running out a pop fly… Outfielder Juan Gonzalez will not return to the Royals this season because of a back injury. This effectively ends his tenure with the team. In 33 games Gonzalez hit .276 with five home runs and 17 RBI… Rookie pitcher Jimmy Gobble has been sent to Triple-A Omaha.
