Maybe you’ve never heard of Mark Hendrickson, but the Royals are very familiar with him after last night. The Devil Rays’ starter tossed a four-hitter on Wednesday and shut down Kansas City 10-1. Hendrickson struck out five, walked none and retired 21-of-22 batters at one point, to improve to 8-8. Ken Harvey’s RBI single in the ninth inning was the only thing standing between Hendrickson and a shut out. Jimmy Gobble lasted into the fifth but never made it out—he was charged with eight runs off eight hits. Gobble gave up three homers. Kansas City’s losing streak reached six games—it’s the third time this season they’ve lost at least six in a row. Their longest losing streak this season is eight games. They Royals have dropped nine of their last ten games, scoring just 20 runs in those nine losses.
