Seven Republicans are going after the party’s nomination for State Treasurer in the August 3rd Primary vote. Three well-known candidates, all members of the Legislature, are vying for the position. Senators Anita Yeckel of St. Louis and Sarah Steelman of Rolla, and Representative Blaine Leutkemeyer of St. Elizabeth tout their banking experience and pledge to do what they can to expand the state’s savings for tuition program. Yeckel says it’s imperative that this be done. Those thoughts are echoed by Steelman. Leutkemeyer is a third vote in favor of expansion. All three also want to take steps to ensure more of Missouri’s tax dollars are kept at home instead of being invested in other states. Each of the candidates claims to have the most experience with banking and other financial dealings.
