Cubs pitchers Carlos Zambrano and LaTroy Hawkins have been suspended as a result of actions during their series with the Cardinals this week. Zambrano will miss the next five games after throwing at and hitting Jim Edmonds twice during the Cardinals’ 5-4 win. Zambrano hit Edmonds in the first inning and did it again in the eighth after Scott Rolen hit a two-run homer to break a 3-3 tie. He was immediately ejected. Then on Tuesday, Hawkins lost his temper with home plate umpire Tim Tschida after allowing three ninth-inning runs, which completed a six-run comeback for St. Louis. Hawkins was ejected, then had to be restrained by manager Dusty Baker. He was suspended for three games. The Cardinals won that game 11-8.
